The column that said idea
On Saturday morning I looked at the Open items list in my Control Plane and wrote to Claude: "I also see Open item with type=idea instead of status, this is not consistent." A minute later: "Idea is not a status of the action? Ideas as just ideas." Then: "I am confused now."
The list holds actions, ideas and incidents. Each row has a type and a status. For many ideas, the status column read "idea".
Why
Claude counted. There are 87 ideas in my vault. In 54 of them the word idea, or a relative of it, is in the status or the state (two separate fields in my notes): idea itself, raw, capture, captured, a Dutch idee. In 21 the status is exactly idea.
When I wrote an idea down, the type already said idea, and the status field wanted something, so I wrote what it was. The notes were not wrong. The app read the free-text status, found a word it knew, and put it in a bucket called idea. A type and a status had the same word all along, and I only saw it when I put different kinds of rows in one list.
An idea has statuses of its own: captured, in progress, realized and parked.
The fix has two sizes
The small one is in the display. A status of idea, raw or capture now reads captured, which is where every idea starts. It took four lines, and no note changed.
The big one is in the data. 54 notes carry a value that repeats their type. A script could rewrite them, and with a backup and a diff that would be safe. I have not asked for it, because it is a decision about 54 of my own documents and not a repair. The list is consistent today. The notes still say what they said.
